KilimoData

KilimoData

is the foundation of MkulimaHub where all the information is captured and made valuable to all the players involved in the Agricultural Value Chain. The Platform is supported by our FSCs who translate and support farmers/FOs. Details captured include:

Farmer details, farmer organizations detail and farms in different agricultural value chains. Individual details include Age, Gender, ID number, Phone Number, Home Geolocation, Biometric details, Farmer photo among other requested statistics.

This application helps understand what crops are grown by farmers in each specific geography and estimate the total area cropped for maize and other crops of interest. This highly unique application is designed to identify selected crops on the ground using satellite imagery and classification algorithms.

This solution will predict locally relevant disease pressure risk models based on models available in the public domain. The model will be used to provide early alerts and recommendations for farmers, such as when there is an abnormally high risk of fungal disease outbreaks. We will work with the farmers and respective stakeholders on the ground to identify the most relevant diseases which affect farmers the most. This solution also helps with the onboarding of crop insurance providers.

This proposed approach necessarily requires better organization and capacities of smallholder farmers, towards their graduation into Farmer Service Centres/farmer organizations, capable to handle the system and getting the buy-in from their members. Hence a crucial dimension of sustainability will be to provide basic training and capacity support and of improving their managerial capabilities, services and thus enhancing their market engagement.

We recognize the critical importance of generating and managing knowledge to understand and resolve implementation constraints, highlight successes, share knowledge with the development community, and scale up activities to new participants. We will support this agenda with a strong knowledge Management component and will use traditional surveys, focus group discussions and Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) interactive mobile phone surveys to generate key learnings which we will manage and share knowledge through various media, documentation, public events, seminars and conferences.

This element captures Farmer attendance, Farmer trained topics, Trained Location, Training session time.

This application is designed for crop health monitoring during the season and to serve as a channel for farmers to receive alerts and recommendations on the appropriate and timely use of agricultural inputs.
